Three Kinds of Human Love
I define love as deeply wanting the happiness, freedom, and ability of someone to bring out their real potential and live fully as a human being. Love is an interdependent phenomena where our own happiness is deeply tied to the happiness of others.
There are three kinds of human love. To be deeply happy and fulfilled in life we need to have all three.
Love of Self - By this, I do not mean narcissism, but self-respect and self-esteem. To believe that you are equal to and as worthy of respect and happiness as any other human being.
Love of Others - Wanting the happiness and freedom of the people in our immediate environment, the people we love in our families, friends, social connections, at work, etc.
Love of Humanity - The desire to extend our sense of love and wanting the happiness and freedom of all the people on planet Earth, especially those who are suffering the most, and to create a world free of war, nuclear weapons, poverty, social injustice, and the degradation of our precious environment.
To be deeply happy, we have to exhibit all three kinds of love and act on it. The great thing is that increasing love is a learned skill something we will teach you day by day in this program.
